Short Paper Assignment #2 Lit. 214
Professor Glenn Turner
Elgin Community College Assignment:
You are to write a short, personal analysis of a short story or of three poems by the same author. Non-fiction and mythology may be used. Please contact Prof. Turner for additional details. The idea is for you to provide a personal interpretation or explanation of theme, setting, character or so on. Outside sources are unnecessary for this assignment.
The paper's length should be between 650 – 850 words or so. This would be 2 ½ to 4 pages typed in 12-point Times New Roman font.
There is no limit to geography. All people living and writing in the present 50 states can be covered (see below for time period). This includes those that were part of New France, New Spain, Mexico, Monarchy of Hawaii, all Native American peoples, and all settlers of European-African-or-Chinese descent.
For this assignment, the writers and poets must have written from 1800 to 1870. Also, they must be citizens or residents of the United States or its territories. European, South American, African, and Asian writers and poets are specifically ineligible. Writers who are exceptions to this rule would be Canadian or Mexican writers/poets who publish extensively, using English, in the United States. Pauline Johnson (Native American [Canadian]) is such an example.
The due date is October 22, 2015.
